We are thrilled to announce the release of GRIDNET Core version 1.5.2. This version marks a significant step forward in our continuous efforts to enhance the performance, stability, and functionality of GRIDNET OS, the world’s first fully decentralized operating system. This release includes several critical updates and introduces new features designed to improve the overall user experience for our Operators. Please carefully review the changes detailed below to ensure a smooth transition.

Key Updates and Enhancements

  1. Data Integrity Error Fix:

    • We have addressed and resolved a data integrity error that emerged following the recent hard fork. This fix reinforces the stability and reliability of data transactions across the GRIDNET OS network.
  2. Cold Storage Engine Upgrade:

    • In a significant move, we have upgraded our Cold Storage engine to integrate with the latest version of RocksDB (branch 9.), transitioning from the previously used branch 6.. This upgrade, brought to us by Facebook’s engineering team, promises enhanced performance and optimized memory utilization. Important: To safeguard against any potential data compatibility issues, we strongly advise Operators to back up their Private Keys before installing this update.
  3. chain -cut GridScript Command Enhancement:

    • Responding to popular demand from our Operators, we’ve added a powerful new sub-functionality to the chain GridScript command. Using chain -cut [BLOCK_HEIGHT], Operators can now initiate ‘cuts’ in the event history, allowing for resynchronization starting from a specific block height instead of the Genesis Block. This feature adds flexibility and efficiency to network operations.
  4. Dynamic Bars Management Improvement:

    • We’ve refined the management of dynamic bars displayed at the screen’s bottom, ensuring a more intuitive and responsive user interface.
  5. Accurate Dynamic Time Estimate for Synchronization:

    • This release introduces an accurate dynamic time estimate for the synchronization process, enhancing transparency and user experience. The estimated time is prominently displayed through one of the dynamic bars, keeping Operators well-informed of the progress.
  6. Integration with the Latest RocksDB Branch:

    • A notable change in this release is the integration of GRIDNET Core with the latest branch of the RocksDB storage engine. This marks a significant upgrade from branch 6.* to 9.*, promising noticeable improvements in performance and memory utilization.
  7. keychain Utility Enhancement:

    • Thanks to valuable feedback from Operator Haz, we have improved the keychain utility’s support for named keychains, further enhancing its functionality and ease of use.
  8. Memory Utilization Improvements:

    • This version includes optimizations that significantly improve memory utilization, contributing to the overall efficiency and performance of GRIDNET OS.

Before You Update

  • Backup Your Private Keys: Given the major updates, especially to the Cold Storage engine, it’s crucial to back up your Private Keys before proceeding with the update to version 1.5.2.

How to Update to Version 1.5.2

  1. Download the new version of GRIDNET Core (version 1.5.2) from the official repository.
  2. Extract the downloaded files.
  3. There’s no need to uninstall the previous version; simply run the installer for version 1.5.2.
  4. Launch GRIDNET Core. The update process is designed to be fully autonomous, but you might be prompted for input in certain cases.

The transition to GRIDNET Core version 1.5.2 is expected to initiate a Hard Fork due to substantial changes in the underlying technology. Operators should remain vigilant for the announcement of the Hard Fork Point and prepare accordingly.

We are incredibly excited to roll out these updates and improvements. We deeply appreciate the continued support and feedback from our community, which plays a crucial role in shaping the future of GRIDNET OS. Together, we are building a more resilient, efficient, and user-friendly decentralized operating system for the world.

Your participation and cooperation are invaluable as we continue to innovate and improve GRIDNET OS.

Warm regards,
The GRIDNET Team
